When the petrochemical industry was incipient in Mexico, a group of investors established Síntesis Orgánica, a pioneer company in the Mexican petrochemical industry, which, with more than 65 years in the development of chemical products, has been a pillar of national development.
Síntesis Orgánica, S.A. de C.V. (SOSA) was the group's first company, founded in 1956 with a transformation plant in Tlalnepantla, on the outskirts of Mexico City. At that time SOSA had an installed capacity of 720 tons per year of phthalic anhydride which was not derived from oil, but from coal, using naphthalene as a raw material for its manufacture. It currently has a production plant in Tlaxcala for the production of phthalic anhydride with an installed capacity of 33,000 tons per year.
